Oberhausen, founded in 1954, is one of the oldest short film festivals in the world. It is famous for the 1962 Oberhausen Manifesto, in which young German filmmakers declared that the old cinema was dead and helped launch New German Cinema.
What it programmes
Oberhausen is the leading festival for experimental, political and artists’ short film, alongside music video and other forms. Two Films About Loneliness, shown at Greenhorn in 2015, won the Ecumenical Jury award at Oberhausen.
Who it suits
Filmmakers whose work pushes form. If your film raises the questions Greenhorn discussed at its 2013 panel on short film and artist moving image, Oberhausen may be the right home for it.
Dates, rules and award-qualifying status change every year. Check the official site before you submit.
