Greenhorn 2013: short film meets artist moving image
The third Greenhorn, on 6 October 2013 at the New Diorama Theatre, paired screenings with a panel on where short film ends and artist moving image begins.

The 2013 festival took place on 6 October at the New Diorama Theatre, 15–16 Triton Street, London NW1. The organisers raised part of the budget through a Kickstarter campaign, which reflects how independent the festival was.
The panel: where does short film end?
Alongside the screenings, Greenhorn hosted a panel on the crossover between short film and artist moving image. The questions were ones that every short filmmaker meets sooner or later:
- What defines a short film, and at what point does it become experimental film or artist moving image?
- Is there a real threshold between an art film and a short film?
- What is the difference between experimenting with film and setting out to make an experimental film?
- How does the place where a film is shown change the way people watch it?
- What influence has expanded cinema had?
The panel was chaired by director and producer Michael Houldey. The panellists were:
- Fiona Curran, sonic artist and lecturer at Kingston University
- Maggie Ellis, head of Film London’s Artists’ Moving Image Network
- Lucy Reynolds, writer, artist and curator
- Jo Shallow, producer and programmer at onedotzero
