The first Greenhorn was a single screening. In October 2011, founders Alix Taylor and Flora Bradwell showed a programme of curated short films at the New Diorama Theatre, a small venue near Warren Street in central London. The idea was simple: a place where new filmmakers could show their work to an audience and talk about it afterwards.

That first evening set the tone for what followed. The films came from emerging directors rather than established names. The venue was intimate, and the atmosphere was informal. Later interviews with the founders keep returning to the same point: Greenhorn was meant to be accessible and free of pretension.
